CHESTER, Mass. — The Massachusetts State Police are investigating after a fatal train collision Saturday afternoon in the rural town of Chester.
State Police Lt. Daniel Richard during a call from headquarters said the investigation is being spearheaded by troopers assigned to the Hampden County District Attorney’s office. He said the DA’s office will release information regarding the victim’s identity and the circumstances which are believed to have led to the fatal collision, as deemed appropriate relative to the investigation.
Chester is a small town of just over 1,300 residents located in the western stretches of Hampden County in Western Massachusetts. The interactive map embedded below highlights Main Street which runs perpendicular to the railroad tracks adjacent to Prospect Street where the incident occurred.
Richard said no road closures occurred as a result of the incident and he didn’t have details about the train or where it was heading.
