Crash victim ID’d as Lowell woman

TYNGSBORO – A 20-year-old Lowell woman who was killed when the vehicle she was riding in struck a tree on Sherburne Avenue in Tyngsboro early Sunday morning has been identified as Alda Phung.

Phung, who suffered extensive injuries in the crash, was treated by police, firefighters, EMTs and paramedics at the scene. She was rushed to Lowell General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Tyngsboro police said they responded to a report of a motor-vehicle accident at 2:48 a.m. on Sherburne Avenue, just south of Coburn Road.

When officers arrived they found a 2002 Toyota Rav4 had struck a tree.

As emergency crews attended to Phung, the driver, Louis Amaro, 20, of Lowell, was taken to Lowell General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Amaro was cited by police for operating without a license. Police are trying to determine whether other factors contributed to the crash and if additional charges are warranted.

Phung and Amaro both graduated from Lowell Catholic High School in 2010, according to their Facebook pages.
