19-year-old girl killed in fatal Raynham crash

RAYNHAM — A 19-year-old girl from Seekonk was killed in a two-vehicle car accident in Raynham on Wednesday.

Hayley M. Sanford, who was a management major and cheerleader at Bridgewater State University, suffered serious injuries when her 2002 Jeep Wrangler collided with a 2007 Honda CRV on southbound Route 495, near exit 18.

Authorities were called to the site of the crash at approximately 6:56 p.m. on Wednesday night.

Investigation revealed that Sanford’s vehicle rolled over during the crash, which caused her to be ejected from the vehicle. After authorities arrived at the scene, Sanford was subsequently taken to Raynham Park, where she was picked up and flown by medical helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital. There, authorities say she succumbed to her injuries.

The operator of the Honda – a 76-year-old woman from New Bedford – suffered only minor injuries and was taken to Morton Hospital in Taunton for treatment.

Massachusetts State Police are investigating how the crash occurred.
