Six people, including four bound to wheelchairs, had to be extricated Wednesday after a serious crash involving a pickup truck and a wheelchair van in Kingston, Massachusetts.
Fire officials say both drivers and four wheelchair-bound occupants of a Habilitation Resources van were entrapped after the vehicles crashed on Elm Street. All six people were transported with injuries.
The van’s driver and one of its occupants were taken to the South Shore Hospital trauma center. The pickup truck driver and the other three occupants of the van were taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth.
A mass casualty incident was declared after the crash, according to Duxbury Fire, which responded alongside Kingston crews.
Duxbury Fire also announced that a MedFlight helicopter had been requested. It is unclear if the helicopter transported any of the patients from the scene.
Kingston Fire officials say that a cause is known, but that information will not be released until later.
