Workers' Compensation The workers' compensation laws provide monetary compensation to pay for medical expenses and to replace income lost as a result of injuries or illnesses that arise out of employment. If the employer does not challenge a claim, the insurance company will make payment for medical bills and wages to the employee. If the employer contests a claim, a hearing is scheduled and evidence relating to the circumstances of the injury and the extent of the injury is presented. Only where an employee or employer is not covered by workers' compensation can the employee sue in court to collect damages for the injuries suffered. |
