Auburn motorcyclist badly hurt in collision with car in Spencer

SPENCER – An Auburn motorcyclist was critically injured yesterday morning when his 2005 Honda collided with a car on Route 31 near St. Joseph’s Abbey.

Thomas Fish, who will turn 45 Thursday, was taken by ambulance to the University of Massachusetts Medical Center — University Campus in Worcester and is listed in critical condition, police said. Mr. Fish lives on Gates Court in Auburn.

The driver of the 2006 Ford Escape that made a left turn in front of Mr. Fish was taken to the same hospital after suffering stress-related symptoms from the crash.

Police Chief David B. Darrin said Donna Paradise, 53, of Lake Shore Drive, Monson, was not injured in the accident. He said she was turning from the northbound lane of Route 31 into the abbey, where she works, about 7:20 a.m. when the accident occurred. The motorcycle was headed south.

The Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council’s accident reconstruction specialists were assisting Officer Scott Griffin in the investigation. The Worcester district attorney’s office was also involved.
