BEVERLY – A 22-year-old man from Beverly was killed when the plane he was aboard crashed during takeoff on a tarmac in Maine Friday night.
His family is surrounded by their friends in Beverly Sunday night and while they’re grieving the loss of their son, they said they’re also grieving for the families of the two young men killed with him.
David Cheney was a business major in his senior year at the University of Maine. He was the president of his fraternity and he was killed along with two of his Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity brothers.
The three men died Friday night aboard a small plane that was taking off from the Knox County Regional Airport in Maine. Investigators said the plane struck a pickup truck, but continued to climb before spiraling downward and bursting into flames.
The Cheney family is now sharing these words about their son:
“David was a funny, loving and kind young man. He was loved by everyone who knew him. His smile and baby blue eyes would light up an entire room. He will be greatly missed.”
Crash investigators said the pickup truck was authorized to be on airport grounds. They’re still working to put together more of the details of the crash.
