Bicyclist airlifted after Salem crash

SALEM – A Massachusetts man was airlifted to a Boston hospital yesterday with serious injuries after police say he was hit by a car while riding his bike on Kelly Road in Salem.

Salem police say Kevin Ngetuny, 22, of Lawrence, Mass., was riding his bicycle on Kelly Road near Duffy Avenue at about 4 p.m. when he collided with a pick-up truck driven by James Delandy, 46, of Salem.

Ngetuny was transported to Lawrence (Mass.) General Hospital and eventually airlifted to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Police say he appeared to suffer a serious head injury. He is in critical condition.

Police say the investigation is still ongoing, but that initial reports indicate that Ngetuny was at fault in the crash and that charges against Delandy are unlikely.
