Video: Billerica Police officer hurt in crash; driver arrested

BILLERICA, Mass. (WHDH) – A Billerica Police officer was injured after his cruiser was hit by an alleged drunk driver early Tuesday morning, according to Massachusetts State Police.

The crash happened in a moving work zone on Route 3 North before Route 129 around 2 a.m.

Jeffrey Walsh, 31, of Lowell, was arrested and arraigned in Lowell District Court on Tuesday on charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, marked lanes violation, obstructing an emergency vehicle and a state highway traffic violation.

Walsh was released on his own recognizance and was ordered not to consume alcohol. He was informed that he would be subject to random alcohol screens. The next scheduled hearing in Oct. 1.

The officer was taken to Lahey Clinic in Burlington with non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation into the crash in ongoing.
