CAMBRIDGE – Police arrested a Hyde Park man on charges of operating a car under the influence of alcohol after he reportedly hit a bicyclist riding in the same lane.
Police responded to the motor vehicle accident at 6:31 p.m. on Sept. 12. A witness, who identified herself as a physician, told police she saw the driver of a 1997 Dodge Ram pickup strike the pedestrian while traveling down Pearl Street. While attempting to assist the injured person, the witness told police she could smell a strong odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath.
Police identified the driver as Dana Mahar, 49, 583 Metropolitan Ave. in Hyde Park, and asked him to perform field sobriety tests, which he failed.
