Car accident shuts down Cedar Street in Wenham

WENHAM — A car slammed into a pole, toppling it and cutting off power on Cedar Street yesterday around 4:15 p.m.

The driver, who was not identified by police, was sent to Beverly Hospital. The street remained closed as of last night, and officials would not speculate on when it would reopen.

National Grid was on the scene working to restore power.

Live electrical wires were draped across the street, and the pole came down atop the vehicle, according to police. This complicated efforts to restore power.

An investigation of the crash is ongoing, though charges have not been made.
