Car going wrong way on Mass Pike collides with tractor-trailer

WESTBOROUGH – The Massachusetts State Police are continuing to investigate an head-on collision involving a car and a tractor-trailer which occurred early Saturday morning in Westborough.

State Police Spokesman David Procopio confirmed that Daniel Murphy, 43, of 45 John St., Worcester, was traveling west in the eastbound lane of the Mass Pike when the 1997 Acura he was driving collided with a UPS Tractor-trailer being driven by 39-year-old Christopher Hanson of Bridgewater around mile marker 102.

Procopio, who said the accident occurred at about 3:30 a.m., said the state police received several calls from drivers on the Mass Pike reporting that there was a car traveling west in the eastbound lane.

Murphy and Hanson were both taken to the UMass Memorial Medical Center’s University Campus in Worcester. Murphy remains in the hospital, where he is listed in fair condition.

Procopio said no charges have been filed as the accident remains under investigation.
