CHICOPEE – State Police are investigating a serious car crash involving a state trooper.
Three cars collided where I-90 and 291 meet in Chicopee on Saturday night.
It happened just before 10 p.m., when Trooper Amy Waterman stopped a vehicle on I-291 at Exit 5.
The driver of the vehicle, 49-year-old Tammy Walker of Chicopee refused to exit her vehicle. As Trooper Waterman attempted to remove Walker from her car and arrest her, Walker started the car and drove off.
Trooper Waterman’s arm was struck by the vehicle as it sped away.
Walker ran a red light at the I-90 Interchange and struck another vehicle.
Trooper Waterman went to the crash scene where she gave medical care to those injured in the crash.
The three occupants of the second vehicle sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries and were transported to area hospitals.
Walker was transported to Mercy Medical Center, where she was treated and released.
Walker is currently under arrest at the Springfield State Police Barracks where she has been charged various motor vehicle charges. She is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Chicopee District Court.
Bail has been set at $12,500.
