Dog Killed and House Damaged After Truck Crashes Through Home in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Police and Fire personnel have responded to a crash in Springfield involving a truck that went through a home on Gillette Avenue just a short time ago.

Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told ABC40 they, along with the fire department, were called to 350 Gillette Avenue around 12:00 p.m. Monday.

Delaney adds that the driver of the truck, an 85-year-old Springfield man,claims that his accelerator was stuck and could not stop the truck.

The driver was taken to Baystate Medical Center for treatment of some injuries and is expected to be okay.

Nobody was home at the time, but a newly-adopted dog that was inside the home was killed.

The house, which was recently rebuilt following the 2011 tornado, has been deemed structurally safe to enter.

No citations have yet been issued. The collision remains under investigation.
