Driver at Logan sends two to hospital

EAST BOSTON – A driver has been hospitalized and is facing a criminal citation after slamming into the AirTran departure entrance at Terminal C at Logan International Airport, causing a five-car accident, officials said.

“A woman stepped on the gas instead of the brake, jumped the sidewalk and went into the doors at AirTran,” said Logan spokesman Phil Orlandella.

Carol Guthrie, 63, of North Reading, was issued a criminal citation for negligent operation of a motor vehicle, said state trooper Reid Bagley.

Guthrie was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital after her 2007 Ford SUV jumped the curb and started a chain-reaction crash, Bagley said. He added another person was also hospitalized.

The crash took place at about 6:35 a.m. Other victims were treated at the scene.
