Driver charged after deadly Weymouth crash

WEYMOUTH, Mass. (WHDH) – A Boston man has been charged after a car crash in Weymouth left one person dead.

The car crash happened late Saturday night on Middle Street at Lake Street. Police said the car, driven by 30-year-old Francisco Gomes, hit a telephone pole with such force it split the pole in half.

The car’s three passengers were taken to South Shore Hospital. One of them, a 29-year-old man from Boston, later died.

Police arrested Gomes and charged him with speeding and motor vehicle homicide. He remains behind bars, being held on $25,000 bail.
