At 2:35 a.m. today State Police received a call from a motorist reporting that a pedestrian had been hit by a truck on Route 495 northbound, at Exit 34, in Chelmsford.
State troopers from the Concord Barracks arrived on scene and determined that the victim was deceased.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the victim, a 53-year-old man from the state of Washington, was struck by a 2012 Peterbilt truck owned by Lazer Enterprises LTD of North Fargo, N.D., and operated by a 59-year-old Charlotte, N.C., man.
The facts and circumstances of the crash, including why the victim was on the highway and how he got there, remain under investigation by Troop A of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. Troopers were also assisted on-scene by the Chelmsford Police Department and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.
The right-hand lane and the ramp to Exit 34 were closed for approximately 2 ½ hours to accommodate the emergency response and crash investigation.
