Firefighter hurt in crash

Motorcycle-truck collide in Wrentham

WRENTHAM – An off-duty local firefighter was seriously injured Tuesday morning when his motorcycle and a pickup truck collided on Route 140 near Meadowbrook Road.

Firefighter Patrick Rockett, 23, suffered a serious leg injury and chest injuries while on his way home after work, Fire Chief Jay McMorrow said.

Rockett was flown by medical helicopter to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He suffered several broken bones, which will require surgery, but the injuries were not life threatening, the fire chief said.

Rockett was still in the emergency room Tuesday night, and no condition was available, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The accident occurred around 8:20 a.m. in the area of 609 East St. (Route 140). Rockett was on Route 140 traveling toward Foxboro and the pickup truck was entering Route 140 from Meadowbrook Road, officials said.

McMorrow said critical incident stress counselors were available for firefighters who responded to the scene. Route 140 in the area of the accident was closed for about 45 minutes.

The accident was under investigation by police.
