Four people were taken to the hospital, one by medical helicopter, after the car they were driving in slammed into a large boulder along Purchase Street on Monday night.
Milford Police at 10:57 p.m. received reports of a car crash in the area of 110 Purchase St., near Overlook Circle.
Responding officers found that a red 1993 Acura Integra, driven by Juan Delgado, 19, of 4 Purchase St. Apt. 2, Milford, had crashed into a large boulder on the side of the road, according to police reports.
Delgado was injured along with his three passengers, Johathan Castro, 21, also of 4 Purchase St. Apt. 2, Milford, Johnny Castro, 21, of 19 Green St. Apt. 2, Milford, and Vanessa Wouters, 20, of 265 Village St., Medway, according Milford Police Sgt. James Heron.
Police blocked off Purchase Street while emergency responders used hydraulic rescue tools to free Johnny Castro, who was in the driver’s side backseat of the car, Heron said.
Four ambulances and a medical helicopter were called to the scene to take all four occupants to the hospital. Johnny Castro was taken by helicopter to UMass Memorial Medical Center, while Johathan Castro, Delgado and Wouters were taken by ambulance to Milford Regional Medical Center, according to Heron.
“The one who was trapped was in serious condition. He had some compound fractures, a head injury and some trauma, but none were life-threatening injuries,” Heron said. “One (occupant) was walking, and two were already out on the ground (when police arrived).”
The Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council’s reconstruction team was called to scene to assist with the investigation, which police said is on-going.
Police issued a court summons for Delgado, who is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and causing serious injury, driving negligently so as to endanger, driving an uninsured motor vehicle, driving an unregistered motor vehicle, and cited for speeding and a marked lanes violation.
The rescue is shown in a video on the Milford Police Department Facebook page, along with photos of the accident.
