LOWELL— Two residents of Hampden were injured, one seriously, when the motorcycle they were riding crashed as they traveled on I-495 southbound in Lowell at the Route 3 interchange Saturday afternoon.
Massachusetts State Police spokesman Trooper Dustin Fitch told the Boston Globe that the two were riding on a 2013 Victory motorcycle southbound on the interstate at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday when it crashed. The driver of the bike, a 46-year-old man, was taken to Lowell General Hospital for treatment. The passenger, a 51-year-old female, was airlifted to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston with serious injuries.
The State Police did not identify the couple.
The highway was closed for nearly two hours as police investigated the incident. The cause remains undetermined at this time, Fitch said.
