Icy Mass. roads lead to crashes Sunday

BELCHERTOWN, Mass. —Freezing rain has glazed roads in parts of Massachusetts Sunday, leading to crashes in which icy road conditions were the main factor.

Officers responded to a rollover crash on Route 9 in Belchertown Sunday morning, according to Massachusetts State Police.

The driver in that crash was allegedly attempting to pass a snowplow treating the road when the crash happened, according to police.

Problems have been reported on Interstates 95, 91 and 84 in Connecticut and the Massachusetts Turnpike, where the speed limit was reduced to 40 mph between the New York border and the Worcester area.

Temperatures in the 40s with rain are expected later Sunday, including the evening AFC Championship game at Foxborough, Massachusetts, between the Indianapolis Colts and the New England Patriots.
