Injured motorcycle rider, car driver identified in Longmeadow accident

Police have identified the motorcyclist injured in a Sunday evening accident as 29-year-old David Gibson of 55 East Drumlin Road, Springfield.

Gibson is being treated in Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, where he underwent surgery Monday morning following the 8 p.m. crash in which his motorcycle collided with a car at Wilkin Drive and Grassy Gutter Road, police said.

Family members said his condition has improved by this afternoon, Police Capt. John Stankiewicz said.

Gibson was headed south on Grassy Gutter Road when a car entering the intersection from Wilkin Drive crossed his path, Police Capt. John Stankiewicz said. The motorcycle rider laid his bike down before impact.

Massachusetts State police accident reconstruction team is assisting local officers in investigating the cause of the accident. No citations have been filed, Stankiewicz said.

Police identified the driver of the car as Norman Burstein, 81, of 383 Converse St. in Longmeadow.
