Man arraigned in wrong-way crash death

Mikhael Sarkis, 50, of Lawrence was arraigned Wednesday in connection with a wrong-way car crash in Salisbury on New Year’s Eve that killed his passenger, the Essex district attorney’s office said.  Prosecutors say Sarkis drove his car northbound in the southbound lane of Route 1 in Salisbury, when it crashed into another vehice.  A passenger in his car, Donna Bergeron, 41, of East Hampstead, N.H., died, and Sarkis, another passenger, and the driver of the other vehicle sustained serious injuries.

Sarkis was later taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, in Boston.  He faces charges of felony motor vehicle homicide, two counts of operating under the influence causing serious bodily injury, and other civil infractions.  Judge Paul M. Yee, Jr ordered him held on $100,000 cash bail.  He must appear in court Jan. 30 for a pretrial hearing.
