Man struck, killed by commuter rail train in Melrose

A man was struck and killed by a commuter rail train Monday evening in Melrose, causing a service interruption on the Haverhill line, according toMBTA Transit Police.

The man was hit by a northbound train around 5:25 p.m. while trespassing on the tracks near Vinton Road, police said. A train scheduled to depart at 5:15 p.m. from North Station in Boston was canceled after it was delayed more than an hour, according to the MBTA.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident—however, foul play is not suspected.
