A Massachusetts man was killed in a Monday night car crash on Route 146 South in North Smithfield, that sent his vehicle over the guardrail and into a utility pole, police said.
At about 9:30 p.m., police responded to the roadway near the exit ramp onto Sayles Hill Road. Investigators saw that the car left the road, vaulted over the guardrail and struck a utility pole, according to police.
The driver, identified as 44-year-old Derek Davis of Leicester, Massachusetts, was ejected from the car, and pronounced dead on the scene. He was not traveling with any passengers, police said.
The crash is under investigation.
