MARLBOROUGH — Two people were hospitalized with serious injuries in a Monday evening rollover crash on Interstate 290 in Marlborough, according to Massachusetts State Police, who continue to investigate.
Troopers from the Holden barracks responded to a 6:36 p.m. report of a single-car crash in the westbound lane of I-290 near the 18th mile marker. Marlborough fire and EMS personnel also were dispatched to the crash, which caused traffic backups.
The left and center eastbound lanes and the left westbound lane were closed for about two hours, police said.
The two occupants of the car sustained “serious injuries” and were taken by ambulance to Umass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester for treatment, police said. Authorities, in a news release issued shortly after 9 p.m., said their identities were “not being released at this time pending their medical status.”
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by troopers assigned to the Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Section and the Crime Scene Services Section.
