Massachusetts State Police ID woman killed in MassPike crash at Brimfield-Warren line

Massachusetts State Police have identified the woman killed in Monday morning’s MassPike crash as Meaghan Noel, a 22-year-old from Taunton.

Troopers from the Charlton barracksresponded to a two-vehicle crash near the Brimfield-Warren line, where they came upon an SUV that collided with a tractor-trailer at about 8:40 a.m.

Police said Noel was eastbound in a 2009 Honda Element that crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a westbound tractor-trailer driven by 52-year-old Sandra Debonis of Warren, R.I. Noel was ejected from her vehicle and died from her injuries, while Debonis was airlifted to UMass Memorial Medical Center’s University Campus in Worcester for emergency treatment. An update on her condition was unavailable.

“For reasons still under investigation,” police said, Noel’s SUV “went out of control” and crossed into oncoming traffic. The crash remains under investigation by troopers from the State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.

Brimfield, Warren and Palmer firefighters also responded to the crash, which initially closed all lanes in both directions. The eastbound breakdown lane was opened to traffic at about 10 a.m., followed by the westbound breakdown lane about half an hour later, police said.
