A 17-year-old Medway High School student was killed Friday night when the car she was driving crashed into a tree in Franklin, according to police.
Madeline Lamson was killed after the car burst into flames near 850 Lincoln St., around 11:30 p.m., Franklin police said in a news release. Bystanders tried to pull her from the car, but were prevented by the fire. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Medway High Principal Timothy McCarron told NECN that Lamson, who went by “Maddie,” was one of the most engaging students he’d met in his career.
“I think a great testament of [Maddie] was [that] at 10 o’clock this morning, her teammates came here with their parents,” he told the station. “The respect that was paid to her by the parents and the teammates was incredible, and I think that is just a testament to the type of individual she was.”
Her aunt, Meredith Stover, told the Boston Globe by phone that Lamson was a senior and three-sport athlete.
“She was a wonderful spirit,” her aunt, Meredith Stover, said by telephone. “We cherished having her in our lives.”
