Middleton man in crash with police cruiser after Salem Walmart robbery

A Middleton man drove his vehicle into a police cruiser after he allegedly robbed the Salem Walmart Saturday afternoon around 3:40 p.m., according to Salem police.

Michael Burke, 40, allegedly fled Walmart in a Dodge Dakota truck, carrying more than $700 in stolen cash, according to Lieutenant Mary Butler of the Salem police.

As he drove away to escape a pursuing Lynn police officer, Burke allegedly struck a Salem police cruiser when he tried to drive between a parked car and the cruiser on Greenway Road, according to Butler.

Police arrested Burke as he attempted to run from the accident scene, Butler said. Burke was unarmed during the alleged robbery, Butler said, and no injuries were reported.
