Millbury motorcyclist killed in crash; second rider charged with drunken driving

WORCESTER – A 23-year-old Millbury motorcyclist was killed and his riding partner was arrested after a crash early Saturday morning near 430 Massasoit Road.

According to Worcester police, witnesses said Michael Schold was driving at high speed when his motorcycle collided with an oncoming 1996 Honda Accord just after 2 a.m. Police believe Mr. Schold lost control of the Buell motorcycle when he tried to navigate a right turn, crossing the center line.

Mr. Schold and the driver of the Accord were taken by ambulance to an area hospital, where Mr. Schold was declared dead. The driver of the Honda, a 32-year-old Worcester resident, suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

The driver of the second motorcycle, George McGilloway, 21, of 1 Matthew Circle, Millbury, whom police said was traveling behind Mr. Schold, was arrested at the crash scene. Police said they smelled alcohol on his breath. He was charged with speeding, driving to endanger, driving under the influence of alcohol and having an open container of alcohol. He was arraigned Monday in Central District Court.

The crash remains under investigation by the Worcester police accident reconstruction specialists.
