Motorcycle crash victim identified as North Andover man

The motorcyclist who died after colliding with a lumber truck on Route 1A yesterday has been identified as Steven M. Daly, 61, of North Andover.

The accident closed Route 1A, near Wenham Lake, for roughly four hours yesterday afternoon, causing traffic backups in North Beverly and the surrounding area.

The accident occurred on the section of Route 1A near Great Pond Road shortly after 2 p.m. Daly’s motorcycle collided with an oncoming lumber truck.

No criminal charges have been issued as of this afternoon, said Carrie Kimball Monahan, spokeswoman for the Essex District Attorney’s office.

Daly was pronounced dead Thursday after being transported to Beverly Hospital, according to the Wenham police.

The driver of the lumber truck, a 60 year-old man from Gloucester, sustained minor injuries in the crash and was transported to a hospital.

The incident remains under investigation by the Wenham Police and Massachusetts State Police.

Route 1A was reopened around 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Monahan identified Daly as the motorcycle driver and crash victim this afternoon. Wenham Police Chief Thomas Perkins declined to comment today and referred questions to the district attorney’s office.
