NORWOOD – Two people were hurt in a head-on collision on the southbound side of the Boston-Providence Highway in Norwood on Saturday.
At 3:35 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, police officers Timothy McDonagh, Shawn Wilman, Angela Gulla and Patrick Bishop and ambulances from Norwood, Walpole and Westwood responded to the accident.
Rescue workers found that the two passengers of the car traveling southbound- the male driver and female passenger- had sustained serious injures. The two victims were transported to a Boston hospital, Norwood Police said in a press release.
Police also found Miguel Sanchez Lewis, 46, of 248 Hyde Park Ave., Jamaica Plain. Lewis was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol (fourth offense), driving under the influence of liquor resulting in serious injury and negligent operation of a motor vehicle, police said. He was also cited civilly for possession of marijuana, though there were no drug charges in this case, police said.
Before Lewis was released to the Norwood Police, he was transported to Norwood Hospital for treatment.
Officer McDonagh is working with the Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit as he continues to investigate the case.
