A Norwood resident injured in a car crash Thursday night has died from injuries sustained in the incident.
Shortly after 8 p.m. Thursday night, Norwood police responded to a car crash at the intersection of Walpole Street and Chickering Road. At the scene, police observed a vehicle with heavy front end damage and a second car a short distance from the intersection.
Four people were treated for injuries at Norwood Hospital. One of the victims, a 32-year-old was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
A preliminary investigation by police says that a the vehicle with one occupant was traveling north on the intersection while a second vehicle with three occupants was heading west on Hoyle Street. The second vehicle disregarded the stop sign at the intersection, driving into the intersection and allegedly causing the crash.
The operator of the second car, Harley Libby of Norwood, was arrested and charge with motor vehicle homicide while drunken driving, motor vehicle homicide while drugged driving, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and leaving the scene of personal injury or death. She was transferred to a hospital in Boston.
This crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, State Police Crime Scene Services, and State Police Detectives assigned to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office.
