A crash on the Massachusetts Turnpike between two tractor-trailers resulted in one tipped off its wheels and catching on fire.
Massachusetts State Police were called to the crash scene shortly after 3 a.m. Friday morning. In the eastbound lanes of the Mass. Pike in Charlton, before City Depot Road, emergency responders found the results of the crash.
One westbound lane was shutdown for several hours early Friday morning as responders worked to extinguish the fire and clean the accident scene. More than four hours after the crash, two travel lanes remained closed.
“We have a lane open but it’s still stacked up,” said Trooper Pete Nielly of the Charlton barracks. Cleanup is expected to continue into the mid-morning.
It is not yet known if any were injured in the crash.
