Passenger Ejected from Crash into Springfield Home

SPRINGFIELD (WGGB) — A two-car accident in Springfield sent a car into a Springfield home and ejected a passenger from that car late Sunday night.

The two cars collided near the intersection of Edgewood and Bay Streets shortly before 10:30 p.m., sending one of those cars into a Bay St. home.

Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney says that the passenger, a 25-year-old from Chicopee, went through the windshield of the car and onto the porch of the house.

That person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, according to Aide to the Springfield Fire Commissioner Dennis Leger.

Delaney adds that the driver was also taken to the hospital with “less serious injuries.”

The identities of either person have not been released.

The car also hit a fire hydrant before slamming into the home, prompting crews from Western Mas.s Electric to be called to the scene.

Crews were also pulling grates from the sewers nearby for inspection due to concerns over the smell of natural gas.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
