Today at 6:43 p.m., troopers from the State Police Barracks in Bourne responded to a single-car crash involving a pedestrian on Route 195 eastbound at the 35.6 mile marker in Marion. The pedestrian, an 18-year-old woman, died as a result of the crash.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Paul Doyle indicates that David Benevides, 71, of Onset was operating a 2008 Honda Odyssey when he struck the pedestrian, who was in the right travel lane. The victim was transported by Marion EMS to Tobey Hospital in Wareham where she was pronounced deceased. It is unclear at this time why the woman was in the travel lane.
The name of the victim is being withheld pending proper family notification.
The facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by Troop D of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
Troopers were additionally assisted at the scene by the Marion Police and Fire Departments.
