Pedestrian Killed in Early Morning Crash

BELCHERTOWN (WGGB) – Belchertown police are investigating an early morning accident that left one person dead.

Police responded to Route 9, near Two Ponds Road, just before 2 o’clock this morning. That’s where they found a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle. That pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 20 year old male attempted to cross Route 9 when he was hit. His name has not been released at this time, but police say he was a UMass student from New Jersey.

Police closed down the the road for four hours while they investigated the crash, but it was reopened at 6 a.m.

The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation.

It is unknown whether any charges will be filed in the case. We’ll update this story as more information becomes available.
