Person killed in 2-car crash in Fitchburg

FITCHBURG – One person was killed in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Water Street, Wanoosnoc Road and Bemis Road just after 6 p.m. Sunday, Fitchburg police said.

Fitchburg Police Lt. Jeffrey Howe said one of the vehicles had two people inside and the other had one occupant. He could not say which vehicle carried the person who died, nor whether that person died at the scene. The first arriving officers immediately began requesting the Fire Department bring extrication tools and asked dispatchers to call for a medical helicopter to land at Leominster Hospital for a 50-year-old woman who suffered traumatic injuries.

Lt. Howe said Fitchburg firefighters freed one person who was was trapped, but it was unclear how many people were taken to the hospital.

Timothy Connolly, a spokesman for Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr., confirmed that one person died and said Sunday night that the accident was being investigated.

Lt. Howe said investigators from the state police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section were assisting in reconstructing the accident.
