Police: Drunken Driver Arrested After Hitting Pedestrian

An alleged drunk driver who had two young children in tow has been arrested after hitting and seriously injuring a 62-year-old woman in Winthrop, Massachusetts.

Police responded to the crash at the intersection of Main Street, Winthrop Street and Revere Street after receiving a call around 3:50 p.m. Thursday. Susan Taylor of Winthrop, who was seriously injured after being pinned under the minivan, was taken to a hospital.

911 call: “There’s a Honda Odyssey that’s almost hitting, oh my God, almost hitting like every single car head on,” said a witness who called 911. “Oh my God, oh my God, a woman was hit!”

You can hear the panic in her voice, frantic as the van went up on to the sidewalk and hit Taylor, dragging and pinning her between the van and an army vehicle, parked at a body shop on Revere Street.

Thirty-eight-year-old Cerisse Bomarsi, also of Winthrop, was arrested.

Crews removed nip bottles from the minivan, which also crashed into a tree, setting the airbag off.

“The information we have on that is that there were several open containers,” said Winthrop Police Lt. Frank Scarpa.

According to police, Bomarsi had her two children – a 6-year-old and a 6-month-old – in the vehicle.

The children are now in custody of the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services.

“We heard a big bang and we looked out and all the cars were here,” said Bob Dion of Revere.

Bomarsi hit her head on the windshield of the van. Taylor suffered from two broken legs and a head injury, but is expected to survive.

Both women were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital.

Bomarsi faces charges of OUI, driving with an open container, operating to endanger and two counts of child endangerment.

“Not driving sober, hurting an innocent bystander, you know, a pedestrian. I mean, really, you’re not safe crossing the street?” Dion questioned.
