FORT LAUDERDALE – A mother-to-be was using the bathroom at a hotel when a car careened into the building and sent a pile of debris on top of her, killing her.
Alanna Demella was vacationing in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and was and set to return home to Massachusetts. But she met a tragic end when a driver lost control and slammed into the cabana she was in at the Riverside Hotel pool.
Authorities say Rosa Rivera Kim lost control and slammed into two concrete pillars supporting the building.
Demella’s husband and vacationers rushed in to save her, but it was too late. Witnesses recounted what they saw as authorities piece together the accident.
The car’s driver sustained serious injuries in the crash and was admitted to a hospital. She is not yet facing any charges.
Witnesses have been recounting the moments leading up to Demella’s death. They say just moments before, they saw her rubbing and talking to her belly.
