WORCESTER, Mass. —A truck with no one behind the wheel rolled down a Worcester hill Friday morning, leaving a path of destruction behind it.
Worcester police said a subcontractor of Bob’s Discount Furniture was delivering furniture on Shelby Street when the truck began to roll backwards over its chock block.
The 24-year-old driver had exited the truck and walked up to the door to try and make contact with the homeowner, and a 27-year-old co-worker went to the back of the truck to prepare to offload the furniture.
As the truck began to roll, the employee inside the truck was forced to jump and, as a result, broke his hand.
The truck rolled down the hill and crashed into a parked car, a wall, a staircase, a street sign and a porch.
Police said the truck was inspected after the crash and said an inoperable parking brake was to blame.
The truck was taken out of service, and the crash remains under investigation.
