Salem woman killed by alleged hit-and-run driver in Revere

REVERE – A Revere man was taken into custody today after he allegedly hit a 40-year-old Salem woman with his car near the Wonderland T station, before fleeing the scene, police said. The woman, who was later identified as Cynthia Osborne, died at Massachusetts General Hospital, police said.

Gerald Alviti, 52, allegedly hit the woman at 6:50 a.m. before driving off in his 2005 Chevy Malibu on Route 1A, according to Revere police. A U.S. Postal Service police officer, who witnessed the incident, later saw the sedan parked on a street in Lynn and contacted Revere police.

Alviti is expected to be arraigned Tuesday in Chelsea District Court. He is being held on $25,000 bail. Authorities said Alviti will face a charge of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.
