BOSTON — Authorities blame sudden icing conditions for a rash of overnight highway accidents in Massachusetts, including two crashes that left police officers injured.
Falmouth police officer Richard Everton was responding to a crash on Route 28 when his cruiser spun out of control and flipped at about 6 a.m. Monday. Everton was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
State Police spokesman Dave Procopio says a trooper suffered minor injuries after his cruiser spun out early Monday on the Massachusetts Turnpike in Millbury.
Authorities weren’t sure if weather was a factor in a fatal crash on Interstate 495 in Raynham. A 57-year-old Brockton man died when his car went out of control at about 4:30 a.m., struck a guardrail and then was hit by a tractor-trailer.
