State police are investigating a fatal accident on Route 6 in Yarmouth Saturday in which a 32-year-old Yarmouthport woman walking on the roadway was killed.
Troopers from the State Police Barracks in South Yarmouth received several 911 calls for a female walking on Route 6 westbound in Yarmouth at 4:57 p.m. Saturday.
A short time later several more calls were received of a pedestrian being struck on Route 6, by Exit 8, in Yarmouth. On arrival troopers found the female pedestrian had been struck and was in grave condition. Yarmouth Fire and EMS responded to the scene and declared the victim to be deceased.
Preliminary reports indicate the victim, Jessica Spaid, 32, of Yarmouthport, was walking on the road when she was struck by two motor vehicles, state police said. How or why the victim came to be walking on the road is under investigation. The vehicle operators involved in the crash were spoken to on scene and no citations have been issued.
Route 6 was closed for approximately two and a half hours to allow for recovery of the victim, crash investigation and eventual clean up of the roadway.
The facts and circumstances of the crash are currently under investigation by Troop D of the Massachusetts State Police with assistance of the Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services. Troopers were assisted on scene by Yarmouth Police and Fire Departments with the Mass. Department of Transportation.
