At 4:52 this morning, troopers assigned to the Massachusetts State Police Barracks in Middleboro responded to calls from motorists reporting a motorcycle crash on Route 24 southbound in Raynham. The motorcyclist died as a result of injuries related to the crash.
Preliminary investigation by Troopers Gregory Furtado and Donald Short indicates that Charles J. Levesque, 54, of Raynham was operating a 2006 Honda VTX130 when he lost control of the bike on a stretch of road south of the Route 495 exit. Mr. Levesque, who was wearing a helmet, was separated from the bike, and rider and motorcycle came to rest in different travel lanes.
State Police are investigating whether Mr. Levesque may have been struck by another vehicle after the initial crash. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by Troop D of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and the Bristol County State Police Detective Unit.
To accommodate the rescue response and crash investigation, all travel lanes in that area of Route 24 southbound were closed for approximately four hours.
