Today at 9:27 a.m., Troopers from the State Police Barracks in Danvers responded to reports of a 2-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle and a dump-truck.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Sean M. McGarry indicates that Richard M. Healy, age 25 from Chelmsford, was operating a 2007 Honda CBR100 motorcycle on Route 128 southbound near the intersection of Route 95 in Peabody when he crashed his motorcycle into the rear of a dump-truck being operated by Rafael D. Olivera, age 51 of Framingham.
The investigation, coupled with witness statements, indicates that Mr. Healy had been speeding, operating his motorcycle in a highly erratic manner, and traveling in and out of the breakdown lane. During an attempt to pass other vehicles by utilizing the breakdown lane, Mr. Healey attempted to move back into the right travel lane from the breakdown lane and he struck the rear of the dump-truck which had been traveling in the right travel lane.
As a result of the crash, Mr. Healey received serious injuries and was transported by responding EMS personnel to Massachusetts General Hospital. At this time, those injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
The investigation is ongoing and Mr. Healey is currently being charged with:
Negligent Operation of a Motor-Vehicle
Operating a vehicle in the break-down lane
Illegally attaching license plates
Trooper McGarry is continuing to investigate the crash and interview witnesses but no additional charges are expected to be filed at this time.
No further information is available at this time. Please do not call the barracks directly.
