State Police Say Turkey to Blame for Serious Two-Car Crash on Route 128

The two-car crash on Route 128 South Tuesday morning that sent one person to the hospital with serious injuries was apparently caused by a wild turkey that flew into the path of one of the vehicles.

State Police Sgt. Matthew Murray of the law enforcement agency’s media relations office, said this morning a wild turkey smashed the windshield of the first car involved in the accident around 6:20 a.m. and caused that vehicle to strike another vehicle on the highway.

Peabody firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life extrication tool to free one of the two drivers, Murray said. The driver was then transported to Lahey Clinic in Peabody by Atlantic Ambulance with what State Police described as serious injuries.

State Police did not release the names of the two drivers involved in the accident.
