State Police Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Swansea

Today at 3:12 a.m., Troopers at the State Police Barracks in Dartmouth received calls reporting a pedestrian struck and down in the right travel lane on Route 195 eastbound, just past exit 2, in Swansea.  Shortly thereafter, a motorist called to report that he had struck something in the right travel lane and had pulled over to await a Trooper’s arrival.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Paul Gifford indicates that 40-year-old Chrisie J. Wallace of Fall River was struck by a 1998 Cadillac Deville operated by 48-year-old Julian Juan of New Bedford.  Responding EMS personnel pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

The first and second travel lanes were closed for approximately 2.5 hours while the investigation was completed.

The reason why the pedestrian was on the highway is under investigation and there were no arrests made nor have any charges been filed related to this crash.

The facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by Troop D of the Massachusetts State Police with the assistance of the State Police Collision and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.  Troopers from the State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Bristol District Attorney’s office have also been assigned to assist.  The Swansea Police and Fire Departments also assisted at the scene as did the Department of Transportation, Highway Division.

No further information is available at this time.  Please do not call the barracks directly.
