Three critically injured in Ipswich car accident

Three people were critically injured in a single-car crash in Ipswich early this morning, police said.

The driver and front-seat passenger in a Ford Ranger pickup were Medflighted to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after the vehicle hit a tree near 190 Linebrook Road shortly after 4 a.m., said Ipswich Police Lieutenant Dan Moriarty.

The back-seat passenger was taken to Beverly Hospital by ambulance, then transferred to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. A Beth Israel hospital administrator declined to comment on the patient’s status.

Police did not release the victims’ identities. Moriarity said police have the names of the driver and the back-seat passenger but are seeking to identify the front-seat passenger.

Ipswich police are investigating the cause of the crash, Moriarty said.

He said he did not know whether alcohol or speed were factors. No other injuries were reported.
