AUBURN, Mass. —State police say a Massachusetts Turnpike toll collector has been struck and killed by a vehicle near the Auburn toll plaza.
Bill Pappas, 61, from Holden, was struck just after midnight Friday.
The driver of a 2010 Toyota Tacoma, a 31-year-old Charlton man, struck Pappas as he was driving through an E-ZPass lane as Pappas was walking across the E-ZPass lane, State police said.
Pappas was taken to UMass Medical Center in Worcester where he was pronounced dead.
The vehicle involved was stopped at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
